The Iris I Fell in Love With – Lancome La Vie Est Belle Iris Absolu

Iris Absolu features an enticing concentration of gorgeous candied, waxy, powdery iris and vibrant fruity green notes, blending tart black currant and fig with a gourmand finish. The heart is an irresistible floral composition of jasmine, while the base consists of patchouli essence with an amber signature.

The iconic La Vie Est Belle bottle has been redesigned with an endless crystal smile, hosting a new depth of iris. Renowned as the blue gold of perfumery, iris is among the most prized ingredients in a perfumer’s collection. Iris Absolu boasts the highest concentration of iris in the La Vie Est Belle range.

Which is Better: The Original La Vie Est Belle or the New Iris Absolu Flanker?

Compared to the original, this version is less sweet and more elegant, featuring beautiful iris notes. It doesn’t last as long but is perfect for cooler days and evenings. If you find the original boring, give this one a try. It’s less sticky and retains the DNA of the original with a prominent iris note, but it’s more interesting and significantly better. Unlike the rest, it has an earthy woodiness behind the waxy iris. With Iris Absolu, we finally experience real iris. The gourmand aspect is toned down, but the fruity notes and patchouli remain potent. If you dislike the syrupy sweetness of the original, you’ll enjoy this one.

Exploring Fragrance Profile of Lancome La Vie Est Belle Iris Absolu

When I first spray it on, I get a bold, waxy iris mixed with juicy black currant, fresh green fig, and a hint of sweetness like dessert. The initial sharpness is a bit much for me. The white flowers in the middle are delicate and just lend support to the base notes. As it dries down, it becomes sweet and buttery, almost like a delicious dessert with gourmand facets. The iris stays strong throughout, giving it an earthy, powdery feel that’s warm and comforting.

As it settles on my skin, the fragrance becomes smooth and blends together like a gourmet dessert with berries. It’s interesting because when you think of gourmet scents, you usually expect chocolate or praline, but this one surprises you by not having those notes.

The iris continues from the opening all the way to the dry down, with a darker edge thanks to the woodiness. The patchouli adds depth, but it can feel a bit heavy. I even pick up on some almond notes in the dry down, although they’re not listed in the official notes.

I feel like the scent is a bit muted. It feels like they were onto something great and then just stopped. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the scent, but in this case, it leans more towards that “quiet luxury” trend.

People say this scent opens with a powdery lipstick vibe, but I don’t really agree with that. If you’ve ever smelled or tasted beeswax, that’s more like what it’s like in the beginning. It’s got this sharp greenness and sweetness at the same time, which isn’t all that pleasant. Thankfully, that only lasts about 10 minutes before the real beauty of the perfume starts to shine through.

Lancome La Vie Est Belle Iris Absolu Longevity and Projection

One of the hallmarks of Lancôme fragrances is their remarkable longevity, and La Vie Est Belle Iris Absolu is no exception. While it has a moderate sillage, it possesses a presence that draws compliments. Leaves a lasting impression without overwhelming the senses. Just a heads up if you’re not into powdery perfumes.

Versatility of Iris Absolu Flanker

This fragrance is not feminine; it is designed for sophisticated women. It exudes richness and luxury, making it ideal for formal occasions rather than everyday wear. Due to its sweet and iris-heavy nature, I suggest wearing it in spring and autumn. Its stable aroma compliments every moment with grace and allure.

Final Thoughts

I can’t quite explain it, but I’m drawn to this scent. This perfume made me fall in love with iris. I usually avoided this note because of its powdery quality, but this fragrance is truly classy, elegant, and gourmand. It blends modern elements while staying true to the original concept. It strives to carve out its own unique identity.

The bottle is probably the most gorgeous among all its flankers. It’s made from heavy glass with incredible attention to detail, giving you a real luxury experience from the cap to the bottom.

This perfume takes a different approach with its floral, fruity, and powdery notes compared to the heavier gourmand elements like tonka bean and praline in the original. Absolu is more refined and sophisticated. Lancôme has taken a new direction with this successful attempt to reinvigorate interest in the La Vie Est Belle line.

Author’s note: Given the mixed opinions, I recommend testing this fragrance multiple times to fully appreciate its beauty.
