Here you can find most common questions and answears about this fragrance.

Does Hermes Barenia Intense have any interesting notes?

Butterfly Lily – Think sweet, tropical florals with a honeysuckle-like lift and a little spicy, ginger-y twist. It’s intense, smoky, and leathery, with woody depth, a touch of florals, and just a hint of sweetness.

Is this perfume long lasting?

It projects strongly in the first few hours, then settles into a close-to-the-skin, lingering scent.

Can you wear this fragrance anytime, or is it best for specific seasons?

This one’s definitely a winter-only kind of perfume. At first, it has a strong projection, but once it settles, it lingers intimately on the skin.

For what occasions is this perfume most suitable?

Perfect for when you want to turn heads… for better or worse.

How does Hermes Barenia Intense compare to other popular perfumes from this brand?

The original Barenia is lively perfume with sparkle, freshness and sweetness — with a touch of honey that makes it utterly addictive. Barenia Intense, on the other hand, leans into heavy smoky, woody, leathery, patchouli territory leaving the bright, fresh vibe of the original behind.

Where can I purchase this perfume?

Available on the official Hermes site and at multiple retailers, with prices that can vary.

What do people say about the scent — more complaints or compliments?

Opinions on Hermes Barenia Intense are definitely divided. Some people love it for the intense smoke and leathery vibes, while others are disappointed that the original Barenia’s bright, fresh character has been changed.

The 100 ml ($189), 60 ml ($140) and 30 ml ($80) bottles of Barenia Intense can be replenished using the 125 ml refill (sold separately). Please note that prices may vary based on retailer and location.

Here’s What Hermes Says About Barenia Intense

Perfumer Christine Nagel is at it again — this time giving the Hermes Barenia chypre a whole new twist with Barenia Eau de Parfum Intense. Think of it as the classic you know and love, but with a mysterious, sultry edge that totally pulls you in.

It’s got that smooth butterfly lily softness, rich oakwood depth, and a touch of leathery warmth that feels oh-so-luxurious. Then comes the patchouli, turning everything up a notch and leaving behind a scent that’s bold, elegant, and seriously unforgettable.

Hidden Stud and Amber Glow: Barenia’s Bottle Up Close

Designer Philippe Mouquet took inspiration from the iconic Collier de Chien bracelet. This time, the bottle is tinted with an amber gradient that mirrors the depth of Barénia Eau de Parfum Intense itself. Its elliptical curves hold the pyramidal studs. And yes — there’s a little secret: one last hidden stud resting quietly at the base of the bottle.

Scent Profile of Hermes Barenia Intense

At first, it’s a bit of a shock — a haze of smoke and heavy patchouli that totally overpowers the leather. The smoke feels almost burnt, swirling so much that your brain wonders… are there other notes hiding in there, or not? After the initial punch, my nose starts to recover, and finally, the leather comes through. But wow — it’s harsh, gritty, and nothing like the original. Not exactly pleasant, and honestly, from that very first moment, my heart sank.

Thankfully, as the perfume settles, the smoke steps back a little. The fragrance starts to reveal itself more gently, letting the signature Barénia sweetness shine through. Here, it’s beautifully balanced with oakwood — same rich quality we know and love. The leather is still bold, and the patchouli keeps its “dirty” character, like wet earth, but it begins to feel… tolerable.

Then comes the dry-down — finally, a moment to breathe and actually smile. This is the perfume’s best part. Patchouli wraps around the sweetness we all know and love from the original Barénia, while the leather softens into a more approachable, friendly companion.

Hermes Barenia Intense – My Final Thoughts

Honestly… I just don’t get the idea behind the Intense. Unless they were marketing it as a men’s fragrance, because yes — it leans very masculine.

I also can’t really recommend when or where to wear it without overwhelming the people around you. It’s too heavy to be a daily scent, and summer? Forget it.

The part I do love? The dry-down. So beautiful, so ambery, sitting close to the skin. If this perfume had been only that final moment from start to finish, without the animalistic smoke chaos, I’d call it an absolute jackpot.

Hermes Barenia Intense: What I’d Change and Why

Maybe I’m stepping where I don’t belong, but I just can’t help myself.

I still adore Barenia the Original — she’s one of my favorite scents, creative, modern, a new take on a classic chypre. I just don’t understand why they didn’t go the route of an intense, fruity-sweet, slightly floral chypre. Wrap that combination in amber, add a touch of honey, and perfection. Instead, every time the leather comes forward, it gets buried under heavy smoke, incense, and patchouli.

And honestly? I can’t even call this a true chypre. For me… it’s not.

So, a big caution: don’t buy this blind, especially if you love the original Barenia. On the other hand, if you’re a fan of heavy, smoky, leathery patchouli bombs, you’ll probably adore it.

Me? I’m just too upset — this one’s not for me. Yet, my heart still belongs to the original Barenia — its warm, elegant leather notes completely captivated me. In my review, you’ll see just how much I adore every nuance of this amazing fragrance.
