It’s not just a perfume bottle, it’s one of those pieces you actually want to display on your shelf.
Scandal Absolu sits in the chypre-amber family, and it leans into richness and texture. It opens with the dark, juicy feel of black fig, moves into a creamy, sensual tuberose heart, and settles into a smooth, warm sandalwood base. I’m continuing my Gaultier reviews, and now I want to talk about Scandal Absolu Parfum Concentré. In a way, this post is a reminder of why I fell in love with the brand in the first place. After my fragrance heartbreak here, I was pretty mad at the brand. But somehow, Scandal Absolu made me fall for Gaultier all over again.
I bought Scandal Absolu a few months after its release. At the time, I thought I had missed the perfect moment to review it. After all, the fragrance community had already moved on to the next launch. Looking back, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Recently, while reading people’s reactions to the latest additions to the Gaultier lineup, I was reminded of something important: great perfumes don’t become less worthy of attention simply because they are no longer new. Some fragrances deserve to be revisited, admired, and talked about long after the initial excitement fades.
For me, Scandal Absolu is one of those fragrances. In fact, I consider it the best release in the entire Scandal collection. It captures everything I enjoy about the line while adding a richness and sophistication that makes it stand out from the rest.
So, even if this review arrives later than expected, I think Scandal Absolu deserves its moment in the spotlight.

I was also really excited about this release – and do you know why? Because of the fig. It’s my all-time favorite perfume note. I love it so much that I’m actually preparing a separate category dedicated entirely to fig-based perfumes on my blog.
When I first smelled Scandal Absolu, I was immediately met with a very strong, dark opening, where a noticeable tuberose shows its green, waxy facets. It is not bubblegum-like at all. From start to finish, the composition stays centered around a green-leaning tuberose blended with fig and a soft honeyed-caramel sweetness. There is also a light dustiness with a hint of spice, likely coming from the woody base. The fig here is not sharp or overly green – it sits close to the composition, which feels dense and textured. The opening can feel slightly harsh at first, but with time it develops into a creamy, sweet fig-woody scent.
In the heart, the fig blends more clearly with the floral core – tuberose and jasmine. Jasmine is not listed officially, but I do feel it softens and smooths the tuberose beautifully. Everything is wrapped in a caramel-like warmth with hints of coconut, sandalwood, and honey. There is also a subtle nutty-green nuance underneath, which keeps the sweetness from becoming flat. It is very addictive. I really love this stage.
From the beginning, the background feels beautifully blended – floral, balsamic, and softly sweet. As it develops, the dark aromatic depth of black fig becomes more noticeable, giving the fragrance extra richness and weight. The decision to make fig an inseparable part of the composition creates a creamy, sweet gourmand effect. The sandalwood feels smooth, creamy, and slightly milky, with just a hint of coconut lingering in the background as a soft undertone.
With time, the fig becomes warmer and sweeter, almost as if it is soaked in caramel and honey. This is where the fragrance becomes especially seductive and decadent-rich, sensual, and very attention-grabbing. The florals also become more present as it evolves, adding softness and roundness.
The base is sweet, balsamic, and ambered. Tonka bean is not officially listed, but I do sense a soft tonka-like warmth in the dry-down. The amber feels labdanum-like, with a slightly resinous, almost leathery edge. The honey enhances the sweetness, while the sandalwood adds a creamy, high-quality finish. There is also a rich woody-nutty depth that rounds everything out beautifully.

Scandal Absolu is not really an all-season fragrance. It leans clearly toward certain times of the year and works best in autumn and winter, as well as in cool spring days or evenings.
In summer, especially during the day, it can feel too dense, overly sweet, and a bit overpowering in the heat. If you still want to wear it during warmer months, it’s best kept for evenings only, with a light application, preferably in air-conditioned settings.

Scandal Absolu performs really well when it comes to longevity, at least on my skin. I find that it stays noticeable for most of the day without any need to reapply. It goes on in the morning and I can still catch soft traces of it well into the evening, which I really enjoy.
What I like is that it doesn’t just disappear – it slowly evolves on the skin instead of fading too quickly. The dense fig, creamy florals, and woody base all seem to help it last and stay present in a warm, comforting way. For me, it’s one of those fragrances that gently follows you throughout the day rather than leaving you early.

Scandal Absolu has strong projection, especially in the first few hours after spraying it. Right after I applied it, it created a noticeable scent cloud almost immediately, with that creamy tuberose and sweet fig accord really filling the air around me.
In the first hours, I could clearly feel how bold and diffusive it was. I kept catching whiffs of it as I moved, and it felt very present without being overwhelming in an unpleasant way. After a few hours, I noticed the projection started to soften, but it didn’t disappear – it simply settled into a warmer, sweeter aura closer to the skin.

For fig lovers – this is not a prominent fig-forward perfume. If you are looking for something in the style of Diptyque Philosykos, this is not that Mediterranean, marine, green, leafy interpretation. The market already has plenty of those, and we all love them – but I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with Scandal Absolu. This feels like the kind of fig scent that was missing from my collection, and I’m genuinely happy to have it.
I love the idea of fig here being wrapped in caramel sweetness, a calm greenish tuberose, a floral heart, a creamy sandalwood base, and a balsamic amber background. Scandal Absolu is a beautiful, complex take on a sweet gourmand – grown-up, but still indulgent, without becoming cloying.
It opens with a soft floral sweetness that never feels overly sugary, then settles into a warm, cozy fig accord. In the background, I also get a grounding woody-musk accord that adds sophistication and depth. Overall, it feels like a very interesting, solid, and slightly sexy date-night fragrance.
The scent is described as a chypre, although when I think of modern chypres released recently – such as Barénia or Barénia Intense, which I’ve also reviewed, I don’t immediately see the same structural similarities here. If you have an explanation for why it falls into the chypre family, I’d love to hear it in the comments.
I absolutely love Scandal Absolu. It is dark, addictive gourmand heaven – just magic in a bottle. I’ve already received compliments while wearing it; it really feels like it leaves a trace of presence wherever you go. With this scent, you don’t stay in the shadows – it is made for a confident woman who knows who she is and what she deserves.

Scandal Absolu may not be a traditional fig interpretation, but that is exactly what makes it interesting to me – it takes the idea of fig and wraps it into something richer, warmer, and more gourmand. It builds its own identity: confident, slightly dark, and very addictive. For me, it has definitely earned a permanent place in my collection.
Overall, Scandal Absolu is part of the Scandal line from one of my favourite designer brands. For a while, I was honestly quite upset with them after La Belle Rosea (you can read my thoughts on that in a separate post on my website), but now, at the end of this review – with Scandal Absolu still lingering beautifully around me – I’m starting to soften a little.
Maybe I can forgive them… but only for now. I’m still keeping my eyes on you, Gaultier. And if you give us another disappointment like La Belle Rosea, I might officially have to divorce the brand.
